Warrior Affiliated INC is proud to have a relationship with Together We Rise, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the way youth navigate the foster care system in America. We hope that we can work together to bring comfort, hope, dignity and resources to a population that is too often overlooked and forgotten.
Here are some urgent needs and issues within the foster care system that we hope to address through our efforts:
1,200 children and teens enter the foster care system on a daily basis, totaling 430,000 children and teens annually
⅓ of these are children of color, 52% are male and 48% are female.
60% of child sex trafficking victims recovered through FBI raids across the U.S. in 2013 had spent time in foster care or group homes.
Only 15% go to college. For those that attempt college, only 3% will make it to graduation.
When these youth enter adulthood, 51% become unemployed and 25% experience homelessness.
Youth in foster care are twice as likely as a U.S. Veteran to experience PTSD - specifically at a young age.
Youth in foster care are 16 times less likely to be prepared for STEM-based coursework.
20,000 youth age-out of the foster care system between the ages of 18-21 annually - without a forever family.
Only 5% of rural foster youth and 21% of urban foster youth report access to a computer at home.
7 in 10 girls who age out of foster care will become pregnant before age 21.
1 in 2 kids who age out of foster care will develop a substance dependence.
